The espionage act of 1917 was imposed on people who were found disloyal to the country, Who spied on the country to help another country. The Goal of the espionage act of 1917 was to punish people who obstructed military recruitment and who caused disloyalty within the armed forces as well as government and disrespected Flag of the United States.

The Espionage Act which was introduced in1917 is a federal law that was in the United States. This act was passed just shortly after some time when the United States became involved in the world war-1. This act has been amended many times in the past years. This act was made to stop the interference in regards to military operations or recruitment.  

This was done to prevent problems in the military and to stop the support of enemies of the United States during the time of war. During 1919, The Supreme court of the United States ruled unanimously through the case of Schenk vs the United States because the act did not violate the freedom of speech and against those people who are convicted under those provisions. This act was based on the defense secrets act of 1911. The authority that was given to the postmaster general under the Espionage and Sedition Acts was to hold any mail that violated the acts.
