Prohibition was not popular among many sectors of american society, nor was it successful at curing the social ills it targeted. but how, exactly, did it fail as a law of the land?

The 18th got rid of alcohol however for several reasons it would soon fail and be repealed and americans would be allowed to drink again. For one, the attitude in america had changed and many didn’t believe that it was criminal to drink. Secondly, because of how it was worded it only banned the production sale and manufacture and transportation of alcoholic beverages. This made many americans believe that a loophole existed that could easily be abused so that the possession and consumption of alcohol was not illegal and so they still felt fine doing it. Along with this it was  never going to enforceable because of bootleggers and others who could break the law while evading police. Finally, the movie culture made society more acceptable to alcohol making the want for the 18th to stay around nonexistent.
