The subject of civil wars in the African continent, especially as product of the unbriddled and uncontrolled desire to extract from this land its rich mineral resources, has gone on for decades, and even centuries. But among the many conflicts around this subdeveloped continent, lays the one that originated in three different African nations: Angola, Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe, and the reason for it? B: Diamonds; better known as bloody diamonds. These rough diamonds, that are richly found in these three nations, most especially, became the fuel that have kept many illegal and legal organization going. And conflict arose between different factions for the control of this trade. Beginning in 1975, with the Angolan conflict that started ever since its freedom from Portugal, precisely because of the desire for both national control, and control of the diamond trade, these conflicts have continued through time, bleeding out the countries. The next conflict arose in Zimbabwe, in the 1980´s and it hasn´t stopped, as power over the government and all its trades, including that of diamonds, has been in the hands of one man: Robert Mugabe. Finally, there is the conflict in Sierra Leone, and it happened between 1991 and 2002.
