1. The U.S. entered World War I because Germany embarked on a deadly gamble. Germany sank many American merchant ships around the British Isles which prompted the American entry into the war.

2. These battles were all turning points in the war. In the Battle of Midway the Japanese could not longer launch offensive attacks. El Alamein forced Rommel to surrender. Stalingrad caused Hitlers army to suffer great losses.
