About how many millions of bales of cotton were produced in the south in 1860

4,000,000 or four million bales of cotton were produced in the 1860's. At least that is what I read. Sorry if I am incorrect!

One bale of cotton is about 500 pounds. In 1860 over 4 million of these were produced.
