Metacom, also known as Metacomet and his adopted English name of King Philip, was the Wampanoag tribe chief.
He is best known for his attempts to live peacefully with the colonists. He adopted an English name to make himself popular to them, he copied their dress style and some bits of their culture.
Later on, he fought in battles against the colonists in order to push them out of New England.
