The states can ratify through special ratifying conventions or their legislatures.

The authors of the constitution themselves allow amendment option by the states for a reason. This is to check on the federal government. If the constitution is not suitable for the citizens, then the states also have the option to make amendments. This enhances the free will of each state in the United States.
