Your textbook talks about the obligations that members of Congress have to the states they represent
and to the people of the United States. There are many times that members of Congress are faced
with difficult situations and hard decisions. For your assignment, you will play the role of Senator
Dresden and make a decision about one of these types of challenges. Read the information provided
and follow the directions to complete the assignment.
Senator Dresden comes from a state that has many citizens who own large restaurant chains. These
restaurant chains make more than 3 million dollars a year that goes to help his state pay its bills. The
Senate will be voting on a bill, S.1245 in the coming weeks. This bill will require restaurant chains to
serve $20.00 hamburgers. The restaurant chains will have to give 50% of the cost of each hamburger
to the federal government to help pay for fixing federal highways.
