If I Had A Million Dollar Budget… Trying to balance a budget can be an absolute nightmare! There are so many factors involved
in making sure you have money to save and/or spend such as bills, groceries, gas, etc. It can be
a very daunting task to take on.
In this worksheet you will have some fun with creating a budget with a pretty decent budget of
one million dollars. Why? Well the Canadian band Barenaked Ladies released a song in 1992
called “If I had $1000000” where they detailed all the things they would buy for the love of
their life if they had one million dollars, but could they actually buy everything in the song for a
million bucks?
Your job is to find the prices for each of the items in the song and see if you could buy all of that
with a million dollars. If you are not able to buy everything for that amount, what would you
have to sacrifice in order to meet the budget?
Here are the items you will need to find their values of and then budget; you will select 10 of
the following:
● A house (please look up the price of a 2000 sq. ft. house in your local area)
● Chesterfield couch or an ottoman
● Reliant KCar
● A tree fort
● A small fridge
● Fake fur coat
● A llama or an emu (stuffed animal)
● The remains of John Merrick (supposedly Michael Jackson bought this)
● A limousine
● One box of Kraft Mac and Cheese (Canadians call it Kraft Dinner)
● Polyester green dress
● A Picasso or a Garfunkel painting
● A monkey
After you find out the values for each you need to find out whether everything can be bought
for a million dollars or if you have to get rid of some items to meet the budget.
