Who were the people that fought for religious freedom and why was protecting it important? How can I re-write this (only 1-2 sentences) while answering the question?

This is what I wrote, but I’m trying to write a thesis statement, which can only be one- two sentences long, if you guys could please help: Protecting religious freedom was important because there were many leaders who believed the different branches of Christianity were better. Religious freedom was to assure that the harms of the British government could not be repeated, knowing that Christian religious groups played an influential role in the British colonies and they were the ones who mostly tried attempting to enforce a strict religious observance through both colony government and local towns. Roger Williams, Richard Allen, Lucrettia Mott, Malcom X, and Martin Luther king Junior, all tried to fight for what they believed in, while trying to protect religious freedom, which was very important to do so. But not to name all, there were eleven Americans in total who tried to fight for what they believed in because they knew how important it was to protect their religion.
