In June 1950, North Korea invaded South Korea. On June 27, President Truman and Secretary of State Dean Ach These notes state: "The
communist invasion of South
Korea could not be let pass
unnoticed, [the President]
said, this act was very
obviously inspired by the
Soviet Union. If we let Korea
down, the Soviets will keep
right on going and swallow
up one piece of Asia after
another."
Based on these notes, why did the United States become involved in Korea?
