Writing Situation The issue of teens and cars is widely debated. Some people believe that
having a car in high school is a necessity. Others believe that cars play
too great a role in a teenager’s life.

Directions for Writing
Read the passage set on teens and driving. Write an article for your
school newspaper discussing the advantages and/or disadvantages of
high school students having cars. Include reasons, examples, or evidence
to support your opinion.

Teenage drivers is a highly debated topic, all though teenagers are smarter than some adults, should they be driving? Teenage drivers can be very safe. They have to take 8 hours worth of course and a 6 hour driving classes, as well as a driving test. But teenagers also have slower reaction times while driving, this is due to the lack of practice driving. Depending on the person you ask, you will get different opinions of teenage drivers. If the teenagers parent’s are working all day, then of course they will need a car to get to school, home, and practice if they play sports. If the teenager has siblings, then they definitely need a car. But teenage drivers are also more likely to make risky decisions and be reckless. As long as the parents of the teenager believe that their kid will be a responsible and safe driver, then I don’t see a reason why they shouldn’t be able to drive.
