The Manhattan Project was carried out in an area known as Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The land was
chosen in 1942 for its isolated nature and access to electricity, transportation, and water. The town
was a national secret containing thousands of workers and their families. Oak Ridge was fenced in
and guarded at all times so enemy spies would not learn about advancements made at the facility.
