"Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst." ~ Robert Heinlen The American Revolution was in actuality a two part event in history. It encompassed both war and diplomacy, but which factor played the larger part in gaining independence for the American colonies: war or diplomacy? Was it the blood shed on the fields of Lexington, Bunker Hill, and Yorktown that gave us our freedom? Or was it the tireless efforts of diplomats like Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson that secured our liberty? Choose either war or diplomacy, and prove through historical examples which one played the greater role in American independence. Answers must be 3-4 sentences minimum and as always must include historical evidence to support your answer.
