26 POINTS HELP !! PLEASE! In 1945, President Truman ordered two atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki. More than 100,000 Japanese citizens were dead within a'
three-day period. Conservative estimates put the total number of Japanese deaths at
more than 200,000 in the aftermath of the effects of the bombings. Later in life,
President Truman wrote of his decision to drop the atomic bombs on Japan-a country
which was then openly at war with the United States:
"People forget... that the bombing of Pearl Harbor was done while we (USA) were at
peace with Japan and trying our best to negotiate a treaty with them. All you have to do
is to go out and stand on the keel of the Battleship in Pearl Harbor with the 3,000
youngsters underneath it who had no chance whatever of saving their lives. That is true
of two or three other battleships that were sunk in Pearl Harbor. ... It was plain
murder. I knew what i was doing when I stopped the war that would have killed a half a
million youngsters on both sides if those [atomic] bombs had not been dropped. I have
no regrets [about dropping the atomic bombs on Japan] and, under the circumstances, I
would do it again." -Harry S. Truman, 1963 response to a Chicago Sun Times article.

According to the quoted statement above, why does President Truman say that he was
justified in dropping the atomic bombs on Japan?
