Why were the European countries afraid of Another War? Please use your own words!

After WW1 the nations of France and Britain who were the main victors of the war feared another war with Germany. As their debt was still unpaid, Germany also improved their military strength against the Treaty of Versailles. The best way to deal with Nazi Germany in their position was diplomacy which they tried through appeasement. France especially that bordered Germany did not have the advanced technology that the Germans developed such as faster and agile tanks and improved planes. Instead, France had invested in the Maginot Line that they did not build through Belgium. Britain had also been worried since their main line of defense was their navy and Germany had improved it since the rise of Hitler. Not only was Germany a threat but Fascist Italy as well which also borders France in the South.
