The Islamic Golden Age refers to a period in the history of Islam, traditionally dated from the 8th century to the 13th century, during which much of the historically Islamic world was ruled by various caliphates and science, economic development, and cultural works flourished.

During the Golden Age of Islam, Arab and Persian scholars—as well as scholars from other countries were able to build on the information they translated from the Greeks and others during the Abbasid Dynasty and forge new advances in their fields.

In summary, the coming of Islam to Sub-Saharan Africa facilitated the rise of political empires, encouraged trade and wealth, and increased the traffic in slavery. In its pure form, Islam was more attractive to kings because of its concept of the caliph combined political power with religious authority.
