I got you, happy to help! The boxer rebellion was a Chinese uprising when the US and some other powerful countries attempted to "put their foot in the door" on China. See, China was considered the "Sick Man" of Asia because they were poor, without a great government, and commonly being overpowered in their own economy. During this time, the United States was heavily practicing Imperialism, which is the process of extending a countries power through diplomacy, or expanding trade and territory to make your country and government bigger. Anyway, the United States wanted to imperialize China because of 1. it's easy accessibility by sea 2. It will allow further trade opportunities for the US 3. It will allow the US government to have a bigger say so in foreign relations and allow us to establish more imperialism. Sounds good right? wrong. As soon as we got their, the men of China and some outlying places became worried about all of these countries (not just the US) going into their home, dividing it up, and changing it with their capitalistic values. This initiated a fighting and rebellious spree within the different parts of China, called the Boxer rebellion! To quiet down these riots, the US passed the "Open Door Policy", which basically just said to the rioters in China that we were only there for trade opportunities, NOT to change their government. This seemed to satisfy the rebellion, and the US got the trade that they desired.
