Describe Anglo Saxon Attitudes towards crime and punishment in a few sentences

Anglo Saxon communities believe that the act to seek justice for crimes should be initiated by the Victims. If the victims did not seek action to the local government , the whole communities would feel that they have no right to interfere with private matters.

If the victims brought the case to the local government, the communities will have the chance to hear each case presented by the victims and accused. But, usually only the king had the power to determine which one is wrong in the conflict.

The punishment for actions that considered as unlawful within the community usually really harsh. A lot of them resulted in disbandment or execution. But, some Kings in Anglo Saxon communities might give the victims with the chance to personally punish the crime perpetrators in order to seek closure.
