   My name is (Your Name) and I am researching out as a young community member that resides in your district and am concerned with enviormental threats that have been affecting this region.

  As a young advocate for the health and well-being of all residents of my community, I have become aware of, and very concerned for, the health of the groundwater supply in my area. I have learned that there are many threats to our local groundwater supply such as uncontrolled hazardous waste, pesticides, septic systems, fertilizers, and contaminants from construction sites. I have found that most of these human activities are not regulated well enough by the government or environmental agencies.

  The youth of our community, our state, and our nation are being subject to known and unknown contaminants due to the disregard of groundwater protection and safety. According to epa.gov, (the Environmental Protection Agency), the ‘laundry list’ of culprits affecting the groundwater range from the golf courses and boatyards, to manufacturing plants and to household run off. This goes to show how many different and separate areas of our community that need to be evaluated and subject to a new better bill to protect the groundwater that all of us depend on.

  I am so passionate about this, not only because I want to better the environment, but also to better the lives of the people and animals where I live. Last year, my friend's dog was exposed to some runoff water that had been contaminated by motor oil from a nearby building construction site and became very ill. This was a very sad experience for my friend and her family and also myself but luckily her puppy recovered. Although, it did not comfort us that other animals could not have met a worse fate or that we were being protected ourselves.

  I implore you, (Local Representative's Name), on behalf of myself and the community that you represent to help create and pass a bill that will expand upon and further the current Clean Water Act and in turn, build upon our future as an environmentally conscious district that cares for the future of one of our purest and most important resources, water.
