Amphibians are not fully adapted on land because adult amphibians breathe through their skin, and for oxygen to diffuse from air into the skin and into the body, the skin must be moist. Also, they don't lay hard-shelled eggs like reptiles and birds; their eggs are gelatinous and will dry out and die if not kept wet.
