Immigration in the United States of America was one that started happening since the first colonization was recorded and these colonisers were immigrants from Britain, Spain and France. There has been surge of immigration since the 1840s to the 1860s due to increased famine and revolutions in many areas of the world.  

Many colonies were formed and they later became independent and progressed towards becoming states, as intruders were pushed out and more lands taken by Americans.  

Immigrants were seen to be slightly inferior to the older-stock Americans and they worked for lower wages, thereby taking jobs from the native-born labour force.
