The scenarios below are examples of the different government branches using their power. Read
the scenarios carefully and answer the questions that follow.
1) The President is not very happy with Congress. They are trying to pass a law that they know
the President is against. The President has made it very clear that he does not want Congress to
even try to pass this law and, if they do, he will veto it immediately.

2) Congress has just passed a law that says that citizens of the United States are not allowed to
talk badly about the government. In fact, if anyone does say something negative about the
government, that person can be arrested. The Supreme Court immediately steps in and says
Congress cannot do this and they refuse to allow this to become a law.
