During the month of Ramadan, they have to fast from dawn to dusk, meaning that they eat no food nor drink any water during the day, as doing so would break their fast. This is done to show the devotion of the Muslims to Islam and to focus on praying to Allah (God). At dusk, Muslims would usually break their fast with something like dates and milk or water and pray, then they will eat a good dinner to celebrate their successful fast. Many countries (not just the Philippines) has Muslims who partake in this tradition and Muslims all over the world try to fast, even if they are in the worst of circumstances. Their devotion to Allah is greater than everything. During the day, Muslims would usually read in the Quran (the Islamic Holy Book), do labor activities outside, and/or help contribute to the community/the needy/poor. The fasting is supposed to represent the times when Muslims and people of all kind would go days without any food or shelter, especially during the days of the prophet.
