What were the goals of the Ku Klux Klan?

The Ku Klux Klan wanted to prevent African Americans from exercising their political rights. By 1868, the Klan existed in practically every Southern state. Its overarching goal was to restore white supremacy. Its method was to prevent African Americans from exercising their political rights. in this way, the phrase  “where they burn books, they will also ultimately burn people.” is both literal and figurative.
