3 Reasons why the Barbary War was important.

Explanation:

1. The American navy forced Algiers to pay 10,000 dollars and release American captives. It was with this, that America had won a decisive victory in the Barbary Wars. This military victory was vitally important in the formation of the United States of America.

2.The war brought an end to the American practice of paying tribute to the pirate states and helped mark the beginning of the end of piracy in that region, which had been rampant in the days of Ottoman domination (16th–18th centuries).

3. The Barbary Wars gave the new nation the opportunity to stand up for itself and to start to build a reputation as a strong nation. The Barbary Wars should be given more attention in history courses because it was the first step in the United States becoming a strong nation.
