In the novel Anne of Green Gables, a young orphan named Anne Shirley is brought to
Prince Edward Island in Canada in 1908 to be adopted by Matthew and Manilla Cuthbert,
There is one problem--they asked to adopt a boy to help out on the farm. While
Matthew has developed a fondness for Anne's candor and spirit Manilla is still set on
adopting a boy. In this excerpt she brings Anne back to Mrs. Spencer to try to resolve the
