NEED HELP ASAP. Write a short paragraph that explains the central idea of the article. Use at least two details from the article to support your response. In Alabama, the march from Selma to Montgomery was a part of the civil rights movement. This march was intended to pressure lawmakers into removing the legal barriers at the state and local levels that prevented African Americans from being able to vote. Civil rights leaders John Lewis and Hosea Williams were leaders of the march.

On Sunday, March 7, 1965, state troopers met the marchers at Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma. Authorities told the crowd turn around. When Hosea Williams asked to speak to the officer who had given the command, the police began to attack the marchers with tear gas and clubs. The day later became known as Bloody Sunday. The following photograph shows one officer attacking John Lewis, one of the demonstrators.
