During World War II Nazi Germany led by Adolf Hitler had launched an extermi.nation plan against the Jews. Therefore, several countries such as Poland, France, and Belgium had been dominated by the Nazis, and the Jews were directed to concentration camps where they would be forced to work and then killed.

At the end of 1943, the Na.zis entered Denmark, where they would do the same as they had done in other countries and they had the purpose of taking Da.nish Jews to the concentration camps.

However, Da.nish citizens (even non-Jews) set up a plan to help Jews escape to Sweden (a neutral country during the war) because they would not be in any danger of arrest there. More than 7,000 Dani.sh Jews were helped to escape using boats to reach Sweden.

Unlike other countries like Ukraine, Norway, Germany, and Poland, where Jews were captured and taken to concentration camps where they would most likely be killed.
