The United States has changed since the Constitutional Convention and so has the makeup of voters. The right to vote during the Colonial and Revolutionary periods was restricted to white, Protestant, male property owners over the age of 21. Since then, there have been Constitutional Amendments that have allowed more people to vote including women, African Americans, and all members of other minorites who are citizens over the age of 18. Today our voting population is more informed also.
