What was the point of view for the christians during the crusades

Question: What was the viewpoint for the Christians during the Crusades?

The Crusade battles were religious wars between the Muslims and the Christians, all fighting to gain control of certain and specific 'holy sites' that were desired by both. Both sides were determined to take back what they deemed theirs and believed that the other side was in the wrong. The Christians, as normally peaceful people, believed that the horrors of war shouldn't have to continue, but did because they wanted what was theirs.
