Was the American Revolution a successful victory or an overall failure? When the Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence, their goal was simply to be free of British rule. They wanted to have a democratic self government free of a single tyrannical leader. They wanted their civil liberties (which were stripped by the British rule) to be restored. Directly after the end of the war, this had not yet been achieved. The British had been eliminated, but there was no government. The 13 colonies were left on their own to survive. The beginning years of the United States were not ideal. The Articles of Confederation were an unsuccessful attempt at government. Soon, though, the Constitution was passed and it still exists today. The United States of America is a world power with a democratic government and civil liberties for its people. The revolution against the British was a success.
