Why was the south so opposed to the Tariff of 18287 What was their response to the act?

In 1828, Congress proceeded a high protective tariff that enraged the southern states because they thought  it only beneficial to  the industrialized north. For example, a high tariff on imports increased the cost of British textiles. This tariff benefited American producers of cloth — mostly in the north.
