Why did the senators decide to assassinate julius caesar?

Julius Caesar was killed by conspirators near the theater of Pompey. At the time of the assassination, he was serving as the Dictator. Although he was popular among middle-class Romans he was despised by Senators as they were afraid of his powers as a dictator. Two of his former enemies Brutus and Longinus were involved in his assassination. So when Caesar was declared the dictator for life by the Senates, many factions in Rome feared that he wanted to overthrow the republic and establish a monarchy. Hence they decided to kill him to save the republic.
