A monastery is a building, or more than one building, where people live and worship, devoting their time and life to God. Life in a monastary is strict. There is no alcoholism nor relationships permitted The people who live in the monastery are called monks. The monasteries are self contained, meaning everything the monks need is provided by the monastery community.

Convents are the version of monastaries for females it is neccesary for them to be seperate so there is no temptation for relationships as these people are supposed to be devoting their time and life to god. They also do not permitt drinking.
