John Boyne en e libro, al igual que Mark Herman en el film han optado por un narrador externo omnisciente para contar su historia. Pero el foco narrativo está situado en Bruno. Contemplamos el mundo a través de sus ojos. Contemplar el mundo con mirada de niño es un recurso hábil para desenmascarar las imposturas, prejuicios y falsedades del comportamiento de los adultos.
