The American mindset of competitiveness benefits daily life in the sense that they attempt to achieve to the highest level, with the fear of being left behind.  This mindset emerges constantly, being shown in sports, academics, and politics. This also contributes to "American arrogance." A large example of this could be the space race, where America's drive to be first, and fear of a nuclear war, contributed to a large jump in a rarely seen field at the time. Science and math standards were greatly improved because of this.
