What measures has the US Government taken to contain communism?

One of the actions was the formation of a alliances named NATO or North Atlantic Treaty Organisation which was supposed to intimidate the Soviet Leader Joseph Stalin. Soviets found it as a sign of attack and the world shook as the Soviet Union formed the biggest division of tanks the world has ever seen.
