One consequence of the US Congress voting to annex Texas was that Mexico decided to grant Texas its independence to stop the annexation. the United States gained the debt and border problems Texas already had. there were no more disputes over the balance of slave and free states. Mexico settled its border dispute with Texas to avoid a possible war.
