Picric acid is used to treat burns because it is an antistringent and an antiseptic. As an antistringent it causes contraction of the skin cells.

Tannic acid is used to treat burns because it has some advantages over other treatments. It prevents infection, which is common after burns

1. Picric acid

It is one of the most acidic phenols. Like other very nitrated natural compounds,picric acid is an explosive, hence its primary use. It has also been utilized in medicine/drug (antiseptic, burn treatments) and dyes.

Picric acid is in the same family of nitroaromatic explosives as trinitrotoluene (TNT). It is no longer used as an explosive because of this type of reaction.
