Following the resignation of President Diaz, a provisional government headed by Francisco Leon was succeeded by Madero in 1911. However, two years later Madero would fall victim to a coup led by General Victoriano Huerta, in which he was killed. The warlords focused the fight against the new Huerta government, in a long war in which each warlord had different ideals.
