More factories and railroad tracks: North

During the civil war, pratically all existing industry was in the North, especially in the cities around the Northeastern coast and the Great Lakes. The South was mostly agrarian.

A large coastline: South

The South was vast in area, and so was its coastline. Southern generals believed that to be an advantage: they thought that the northern army and navy could not cover so much space.

A larger population: North

The North had a lot more people than the South. The North had around 22 million people, while the South had less than half: around 9 million people.

More food production: South

The South had (has) a warmer climate that allows for year-round crops. It's economy was agrarian, and the food production was therefore and advantage for them.
