Mt. Everest’s weather is very extreme. This area includes harsh winds, sub-freezing temperatures, and thin air. Climbers also face unpredictable conditions such as avalanches and ice storms. Sudden storms increase the danger. Despite these hazardous conditions, hikers still continue to make the journey to Mt. Everest in the hopes of conquering it. There is only a small window of time during the year when hikers can attempt the climb. Because May is the best month for this, people flock to the region during springtime. However, May is sandwiched between the region’s wintry months and summer’s rainy days, so sometimes climbers never even get to try. They may have traveled a long way just to wait at the base of the mountain for the weather to cooperate.
