I just wanna know something real quick, people that self harm what do u get out of that? all u feel is pain

Self harm is a coping strategy that distracts people from their mental pain by inflicting physical pain. What people who self harm get out of it is a way to relieve tension and stress. It may take away negative feelings. It could also  be a way to punish yourself if you're feeling guilty or shameful. It can be a sense of control you feel when you lack it in other areas of your life. And some do it with intentions of suicid
