The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act was first known as the Education for All Handicapped Children Act. The law was designed for the children in school that had disabilities that were not getting a good education.  The children were not being placed in the rooms with other children and were not learning the appropriate things,

In 1986, President Reagan signed into law another act that made the parents more informed and more say in their child's education. This was called the Handicapped Children’s Protection Act.
