The Jim Crow Laws were laws which were operative in the Southern States of the United States of America after the abolition of slavery. These laws promoted racial segregation and discrimination against the black Americans. The law enthroned the doctrine of separate but equal which made it illegal for the black Americans to share the same facilities with the whites. The black could not attend schools attended by the whites of the Southern States nor use the same public facilities like restaurants, restrooms, public transportation, etc. The laws also implemented the black code which disenfranchised the black Americans. They were not permitted to vote or be voted for. These laws continued to oppress and discriminate against the black American until the 1964 when the Civil and Voting Rights Acts were enacted. The young people, especially the young black Americans protested against the Jim Crow Laws through peaceful demonstrations, articles, songs, etc.
