(1) It allows the possibility of a minority president being elected:-

In the last twenty years electoral college has made it possible for a minority president to be elected twice. President Bill Clinton for example was elected with less than 50% of the total popular vote as well In 1992. The electoral college allows that if no individual candidate reaches the 270 threshold, then anyone who has received an electoral vote can be elected President by the legislative branch of the government which can be made possible with just one vote.

(2). It may not be an accurate reflection of the will of the people:-

Electoral college can be undemocratic. For example in the republican party primary elections leading to the 2016 elections, Donald Trump was only able to be successful because of the circumstances of other candidates, however in the general election he failed to win the majority of the vote. However, with the Electoral College, all that matters is the final count of electoral votes, not actual votes, and that means a candidate may be supported by a minority only which is undemocratic.

(3). It can reduce voters turnout in some areas:-

Presidential election in 2016, Hillary Clinton (a presidential aspirant) had a consistent 15- to 20-point lead over his rival Donald Trump in the polling for several weeks before the election. However, the results showed a difference of 16.2 percentage points. For Republicans or Independents, casting a ballot for the election could seem pointless because Clinton’s win seemed like a very sure possibility already, but because of the structure of the Electoral College, this can lead to voters choosing not to vote because they feel like their vote is not going to matter after all hereby affecting the turnout of voters in some areas.
