How did the United States and Great Britain prevent starvation in a democratic German city blockaded by the Soviets?

In 1948, the Soviet Union´s dictator Joseph Stalin ordered the blockade of West Berlin - made up by the three Western occupàtion zones -, angry because of the decision to allow a new German currency.
