The Mexican-American War took place between 1846 and 1848 due to various factors. It ended with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo where the US received lands which formed the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, southwestern Colorado and southwestern Wyoming. The US paid 15 million dollars to Mexico and the latter gave up its claims to Texas. The war and treaty brought the United States near to the Pacific Ocean and provided many ports, minerals and natural resources.
