he Middle Ages: The Middle Ages lasted from the 5th century until the 15th century in Europe. The modern era can technically be counted from the 19th century, but in colloquial usage often refers to the period after the end of World War II up through the present.

Explanation:

The Middle Ages was filled with things like Kings, hierarchies that includes where you stand in society(peasants and what not). While now, the modern era, is more complex and does not need  a tyrants Such as a king. Though some places now still have kings and such we are far different than the Middle Ages. During the Middle Ages transportation was either horses, carts and/or feet. Now we use cars, planes, boats, sometimes horses and carts in some places, etc. and as you can see we now have phones and technology, something the Middle Ages did not have.I did my best to answer,  I hope this helped...
